Fuelling your stove

The right way

Look for the Ready to Burn logo when purchasing fuel to ensure it meets quality standards.
Whether you’re using wood, briquettes, or smokeless fuels like anthracite, the Ready to Burn certification is your assurance of quality. This logo guarantees that the fuel meets the required standards for moisture content (20% or less) and cleanliness, ensuring a more efficient and environmentally friendly burn.
Certified Ready to Burn wood, briquettes, and smokeless fuels produce less smoke, burn hotter, and help minimize harmful deposits in your stove and flue system. They are also essential in Smoke Control Areas, where only approved fuels can be used. By choosing Ready to Burn fuels, you’ll enjoy better performance while contributing to cleaner air.

The Hamer Stove incorporates advanced air control systems, each playing a vital role in delivering an efficient, clean, and beautiful burn. Here’s how each system contributes to the stove’s exceptional performance:

1. The Primary Air System is key when burning solid fuels such as coal and is essential during the initial stages of fire lighting or reigniting wood on low embers. This air enters the appliance from beneath the grate, delivering oxygen directly to the base of the fuel to maintain combustion. Once the fire is established, the primary air’s role diminishes as the other air systems take over, ensuring a more efficient and clean burn.

2. The Secondary Air Wash is designed specifically for burning seasoned wood and works to keep your stove’s glass clean and clear. As air enters the stove, it’s preheated and carefully balanced through our innovative air wash baffle system. This preheated air flows down across the inside of the glass, creating an effective curtain of air. Not only does this help prevent soot and deposits from settling, but it also enhances the combustion of gases, ensuring a more efficient burn.

3. The Double Tertiary Air System operates automatically to boost efficiency and reduce emissions. By introducing air into the upper part of the firebox, it reignites leftover gases and particles that weren’t fully combusted during the primary or secondary stages. This system enhances overall performance, ensuring your stove meets modern eco-design standards while providing cleaner and more efficient heat.

4. The Clean-Flow Flue Cage is made from three layers of stainless steel, each perforated with precision holes that allow flue gases to pass through. As the stove operates and the flue cage heats up, the elevated temperatures encourage further interaction with the flue gases. We believe this process helps reduce particulates in the gases and contribute to a cleaner performance overall.
